I agree but disagree. All the "best" competitions are crap but I disagree as to why a forfour doesn't win it. Here's why it doesn't.

(trimmed for space)

Exactly the point I was making... covered my points in my previous post - I think we are in agreement.

Modifieds are over the top monstrosities and you'd have to be completely ridiculous with yours in making it so vulgar with crazy fibreglass, wheels, four tons of fake plastic chrome, a stupid paint job covered in vinyl and several grand's worth of ICE and a W12 engine.

There's no point in considering best-kept as year old small cars with easily swappable panels can enter.
Last year's winner (with the personalised numberplate) broke the competitions rules (upon inspection of it's tax disc it wasn't of age to enter) thus it was a small vehicle purchased recently - and if put in a garage and barely driven...

Best dressed is about being as stupid as you can with fluffy toys and stickers - and of course, some wool.

Not forgetting, the 'judges' are the visitors.... and you know who most of them are.

I wouldn't go as far as labeling people personally but I do agree on a mindset.

              --------------------------------------------------

I would agree with us having a stand but I don't agree with segregating ourselves completely - coming in convoy and parking en-bloc.
It doesn't show us as being part of the community, which I think everyone would agree is what we want.

Parking en-block does not 'segregate' us.  In fact, with so many ForTwo's I'd say they not so much segregate as flood
the whole place.....with our ForFours being the flotsum and jetsum somewhere in it all !
And coming in in a convoy shows them that we are just as much a group of committed Smart owners as the rest.

I'll do a poll as the event get's closer...to judge everyone's preference, then take if from there.  Democratic or what ?   ;D

I think we should all drive in together, if none of us are entered into any show categories?

Anyone heard any news about this year's Smart Festival? I know Baggy wrote to Smart UK via facebook and they couldn't yet give a date....

The title of this thread is 18/09- has anyone been told that this is correct?

It's getting a little frustrating as a lot of us have to check with work if we can have the day off (I am working all but the first weekend in September and if I can't take a day off then I won't be coming along)- I am going to try to push them for an answer as we were told in February last year what the date would be for the 2010 Smart Festival.....

Hi All,

Further to my post this morning, after emailing various people, I received this very quick response from Al Young (chairman of the Smart Club UK):

Hi Victoria

Thanks for your email.

As yet, Mercedes-Benz UK have not confirmed a final date for this event and
as such, we have no additional information at this time.

We expect to hear more mid-late May and we'll update you further at that
time.

Best wishes

Al

Al Young
Chairman & Managing Director
thesmartclub ltd

I guess we will just have to wait until the end of the month before we can make any arrangements....
If I hear anything back from Mercedes Benz World I shall of course keep you updated.

Thanks :)

Many thanks LadyV for all of us for the 'heads up' on the situation with the date for The Smart festival 2011.

I did originally start this post with the date of 11th Sep, but then I had quite a few peops tell me it was the 18th,
so I amended it.  Anyways...until we know for sure I'll leave it posted as the 18th.

Thanks once again.

That's ok- I (like everyone else I suspect) like to know things sooner rather than later so that we have the time to organise something.

I have heard quite a few things as well - however (and just a suggestion) wouldn't it be better if we changed the topic to read "The Smart Festival 2011" and change it accordingly when we have a confirmed date?

As said before I shall keep everyone updated!

Thank you! :)

I'm in full agreement and have changed the 'start' post so that the topic header now reads as "The Smart Festival 2011".   ;D ;D

Al is usually very good with these meets and sharing information when he gets it. Last year was announced late in my opinion, but we all got our sticker tubes in time and some of us were fortunate to be entered for show cars. Patience is a virtue.  :D
