I've started this thread for anyone who may sell or want to sell
something and who hasn't the damnedest idea who to send it with.

Please submit your reommendations, comments, experiences etc
(An on-line website for the 'supplier' of the service is a requirement)

I've used ParcelForce, MyHermes, and a few others over the years.

ParcelForce are now mega expensive.
MyHermes only let me down once on an international delivery.
                 (but recovered the situation in a day). They were miles
                 cheaper than ParcelForce.
DPD have delivered lots to me..and all in good time and condition,
                               but I've yet to use them for a delivery myself.
City Link.....not as reliable as DPD, and have had a few issues with
                  saying they have attempted delivery when they haven't.
UPS/DHL/TNT also do domestic UK deliveries.
                  Heard not so nice things about TNT but not about UPS
                  or DHL. I've not used them personally.

I've used Hermes a few times without issue. But did see them on watchdog recently and probably wouldn't use them for anything of significant value.

SMA Worldwide is decent for sending pallet size stuff at decent prices (engines, gearboxes etc)

One not to use is the royal mail. Cost me £35 quid for 2 parcels back to Htec.
Granted, they were 6kg and 4.5kg but still mega expensive.

I've been using Collect + for the wife's ebay selling. It's cheaper than Royal Mail, tracked and I have had no problems whatsoever. You drop the parcel off at your nearest local participating shop and they scan it and give you a receipt.
It might not suit everybody's circumstances, but it does go up to 10kg and is definitely worth a look.

Collect + (yodel) and Hermes use a lot of 'bods with cars' Never had a problem with Collect + and we have a liveried van deliver yodel to work but not the right impression from our business pov.

We have accounts with UPS and DHL. I mainly use UPS, decent rates, spot on service & not too expensive. They have upped their game & now have a network of drop off points in newsagents so your parcel can be dropped in & collected any time they are open. They sometimes leave our residential deliveries at these if no one is in when they try & deliver, not one complaint yet!

To be fair any one of these services will at some time let their customers down. The sheer number of drops these delivery guys are expected to do will put them under tremendous pressure to cut corners. An old trick by Royal Mail staff is to write the "while you were out cards" out in the office. Then they run up to your house and stick the card in as quietly as possible and run off. The parcel either never left the office or stayed on the van and I have actually watched one do it from my window.
Collect + will attempt delivery again the following day if no one is in instead of leaving a card.
Then you get the bad recipients who will say they never got left a card because they're too lazy to go to the delivery office.
Also you get the out and out thieves which inevitably turn out to be the last person you would think capable of such things.
Royal Mail is now pricing itself out and leaving big gaps for the competition.
Should never have been privatised, but the big money boys wanted their profit.

I normally use parcels2go as it's a "compare the market" style courrier service.

I've also used a polish "compare" postal service to send stuff to Poland. They gave me a price still for DPD and it was lots cheaper

The heavy exhaust I sent to Poland cost about £15

I've used Paisley Freight a few times for sending wheels and tyres. Their prices seem to be good and they appear to use various people/couriers to collect from you. One thing I like is that if you have to go out you can leave a note authorising them to collect without you being there.

I don't see any reason why the collection and delivery address could be nothing to do with Poland

I use Interparcel.  Site is quite user friendly and gives options for different delivery times/prices from a few companies
