Happy Birthday?
« on: November 26, 2013, 06:44:18 PM »

Am thinking that with the 10th anniversary/birthday of the forfour coming up next Spring 2014 should we be planning some form of celebration to mark this significant event? I for one particularly enjoyed the recent meeting at Beaulieu. Perhaps if we start planning now and asking for suggestions for a suitable venue more people will have time to plan ahead and increase the chances of a really good turnout. Thoughts anyone?

2014 will be the release date of the new ForFour...followed not
long after by the release of the new ForTwo, so maybe it was no
co-incidence that MB decided to postpone the 2013 SmartFest.

However, back to the subject/topic...
Your idea is not such a bad one at that, BUT.....let's face it, how many
have we managed to get to turn up for The Smart Festivals ?  15 -20 ?
Yet we have a lot more UK members than that registered on the forum !
So forgive me for saying that good though your idea is, I really do not
believe you/we could get a substantial enough number to commit
themselves to attend the event and then actually turn up for it !
Far better maybe to tag along to a 'general' Smart meet at wherever it
may happen to be.....where everyone can parade and display their car
as part of a larger group rather than 5 cars in the normal car park.

TBH...it is more than obvious that the majority of UK owners do not share
the same enthusiasm for their ForFours as the owners of ForTwo's,
or Roadsters and Crossblades !   Even our European 'cousins' have a greater
love for ForFours or so it would seem. (Smart Times 2012 as an example)
I find that quite a shame, and sometimes more than a little upsetting.

Brabs, I wasn't about to shed any tears.....
And I'm sorry if my comments seemed to be a downer,
but myself, JJ, funky, and a few others have made similar
suggestions months before a suggested date, but to no avail.

I fail to see why we get such a poor response...if any !

I agree G. I meant ah as in ah I understand. You are right of course. It would appear that we are part of a small select band of forfour owners who actually recognise that these are quite special and unique little cars. To the majority of owners it would seem that they are just a means of a to b transport, which puzzles me as to why they bought one in the first place! Ho hum eh?

Hang on-just because people don't have the time or inclination to travel to events to meet up with other owners, it doesn't mean they don't like or appreciate their cars.

No problem. I understand that you were just trying to placate Mr Grumpy.

agreed - i love the cars but can rarely travel to meets for 2 reasons..... time and cost!

i only have a certain amount of good will chips that i can cash in with the missus (many of which dissappear when i tell her i have to pay to keep the site going)

then it can cost £50 just in fuel to attend a meet....... thats quite a lot out of my disposable income pot.

anyway....... no harm in suggesting a meet. if the take up is poor then so be it but not a reason to not bother.

Out of interest, how much does it cost to run the site if you don't mind me asking?

Indeed. The thing with the meets and members is we are in varied parts if the country. Didn't someone suggest a track day at some point, that would be good fun
