Title: "A" Service booked in for Friday
Post by: Problemchild on April 13, 2010, 08:25:29 PM
Booked in at merc for Friday afternoon....

£175 Inc vat which I think is not too bad as they will valet my car and I will drink as
much free coca-cola as I can !!

I have also asked them to look at the rear shocks (advisory on mot for misting) and the front left wheel - again!

Good thing is that without prompting, they told me I still had warranty until July 2010

Either this an 'A Service' or just 'a service' ;) lol

Hope the service goes well.

I think with MOT "advisory" info it should be two new rear shocks please and a n/s front knuckle. I got my rear shocks out of them no problem.
My Independent Smart servicer said I should also ask Merc for a new clutch actuator because it was "noisy." They didn't change that however, but said they'd adjusted it. I had to accept that though because it was just one mechanic's word against another and the actuator is still going strong.
MOT advisory is something else.... now that's evidence!
Hope you get it all done jj  ;D

JJ...
As BB says...go for the jugular.....2 new shocks and replacement front knuckle.....
unless by front wheel you mean it's got a flat spot from a pothole in the road.

Andrew's forfour was there last week and the week before. He had an A service done too, plus new speakers, new gear selector module, new rear screen*, new poly belts and a new wheel. Belts (and wheel of course) were chargeable. *When the contractors fitted the rear screen they broke the clips on the tailgate top/spoiler and Bristol have since fitted a new one, minus the proper spoiler. It's going in next week to have that fitted.

Andrew's car has only done about 10,000miles from new and he cleans it every week, plus its had about 4 Merc valets recently so it should look at its best. The only flaw at the moment is the paint on the "powered by BRABUS" badges (he paid a lot of money for) is peeling off. Need to email BRABUS and moan at them.

I'll add it to my extensive list lol.
Shouldn't be too hard to be honest. I have red, black and brushed alloy effect vinyl.
Bought all the parts to do domed vinyl, just never got around to making any yet.

What length?

PC, I am giving you friendly advice..do not let the wheels turned when you  park.
The electric steering remains under pressure, and is not recommended to use it like that ....
I observed that some of the steering wheels from the 44 makes a small dance in the column ....and if you let the wheel
go straight and correct, the inside piston remans on neutral position without forcing the piston and oil pressure in the box.
Hope you can understand what I want to explain ... :)

Sorry, like an eeeejut I forgot to measure and now i'm away for the week. The car is at Bristol if you want to go and measure! The nice people at BRABUS are sending new badges over in the post - i'm sure they'll want the old ones back though.

Well funnily enough, they think Andrew's is out of warranty and have £600 odd of repairs to try and get paid for....

Had to point out this morning that the work was under warranty and the guy hadn't ever heard of 4 yrs warranty - even though the service receptionist told me the date my warranty expires - July 2010!!!

thanks for the email ant....... You have a response ;)

P.S. New rear shocks fitted today but left hand linkage not available yet as on back order !

Suspension feels lovely and tight at the rear !
Do I gave to let the shocks bed in at all ??

Also ordered a cabin filter while I was there - £16 ???

Oooh jj that winds me up when they book your car in and haven't got the parts. Now it's another day they'll have it off you. Good job you've got the warranty though  ;D
I wonder if the shock absorbers have been modified or are exactly the same as before. Mine were replaced around 7000 miles.

7000 miles  :o  :o  :o   Ouch  ! ! !

And with everyone's 4 yr warranty's running out I'll bet your all avoiding every
lump, bump, crease, pebble, stone, manhole cover, grating, pothole, speed bump etc
that exists. Either that or your planning on selling your Brabus pretty darn soon !

7000 miles.......I still can't believe that ! ! !
How about all you Brabus owners clubing together to buy a 'job lot' of decent replacement shocks
from the manufacturer direct (not the cash grabbing suppliers/importers), and selling them at the same
seriously discounted price to your fellow Brabus owners.....(Just a thought guys...)

Well I'm not a Brabus owner, mines a 1.3 softouch, but I suspect it's probably the same
shock absorber. I've just had a look at mine and the o/s one again is showing minor
leakage. From what I've seen on the forums aftermarket replacements aren't widely
available you have to hunt for them. I think it's to do with the mountings. I don't think
we have much to put with though on the Forfour. Apart from minor niggles there's
seems to be TVA, wheel bearings, shock and absorbers, clutch actuators. Trouble is,
it's all about £300 or more if you're unlucky.
