As Cosmin pointed out recently, Smart Times 2012 will be held in Belgium.
I have had a look on the web for any further information but the only thing I could find so far is that it will run from August 23rd to 26th 2012.
If anyone has any further information, please put all details in this thread.
I think it sounds like a good idea and Fox and I are certainly going to look into it as Belgium is a little easier to drive than Italy!
Anyone else like the sound of this?

I heard that the location it will be something very special with an tour near a Castle or something like this and the area will be verry nice with allot of history .

This is an initial email to confirm that you are registered to receive updates and information regarding smart times 2012 and thesmartclub's visit to that event in August.
Planning for this event is well underway and we are working closely with the organisers on the final timetable, locations and activities.
The great news is that communications for smart times 2012 will be out in much finer detail and be issued much more quickly than those experienced in 2011. I expect full details to be issued to you very early next year and Issue 21 of '4site' smart magazine will subsequently include full details.
One thing is for sure - attendance is already looking to be the best yet and with what promises to be the best programme of activities yet, it will be an event not to be missed.
thesmartclub will again be offering a number of complete 'packages' to and from smart times 2012 and again, details of these will be issued early 2012.

Further email from Al regarding the "packages" that they offer:
Hi Victoria
Thanks for your message and I can advise that we normally offer a small number of packages that effectively handle all logistics to and from International events assuming one departs from the UK. This holds true for our Hambach (smartville) events and, of course, smart times.
These packages generally include channel crossing, any en route accommodation, accommodation at the venue and any transfers etc. For smart times 2011 (Riccione, Italy) for example, we offered the channel crossing, accommodation in northern Germany, southern Germany, accommodation in the heart of the smart times activities in Riccione and the same all the way back to the UK. 2012 will be different of course given its proximity to the UK but again, we’ll ensure we have the ideal accommodation location chosen for the bulk of smart times activities – as you will already be in Europe, we may be able to include you simply based on accommodation in Belgium although all that planning is still underway.
Rest assured that whilst many people are already booking hotels in Antwerp, the official smart times event organisers are still planning what activities take place where and we are part of that organisational team – as such, we can be sure to provide the best information and logistics where possible.
It will be late January, early February before we can announce more and as with all our events, my organisation team make at least one entire ‘dry run’ of route and accommodation to make sure all is well before we publicise.

we (from Romania), we allready booked some rooms and we are waiting to see the program :)
untill now we are 10 cars :) , i know i know we are just 10 but we are expecting untill march to be more :)

The event could be anywhere around Antwerp....it's quite a large area....
So most of us, rather than book a hotel/rooms 10miles to the West side and then find
it's to be held 20 miles or so East of Antwerp are waiting for the official word from
the organisers group.....and also to see what deals they come up with too.
As Al Young from the Smart Club said in his message/post....

I agree with CrazyG on this one, I am not going to book anything until we have more news from Al Young.
Firstly I need to book the time off work (if I don't have time off already) and secondly need to work out where it is before I book anything.
Cosmin, I look forward to meeting you if you're going. You have been a great part of FFO as well as FF.co.uk.

we can ask and tell to put groups of countries near one to others and possible to see also the manufacture where smart 44 was assambled :D
is a honor to help , and i am sure that all the owners of the 44`s have that "something" for the cars and they feel save in the car and love the road attitude .

As I am sure you know, smart times 2012 takes place in Antwerp, Belgium from 23rd to 26th August 2012 and the forthcoming issue of thesmartclub's '4site' Magazine contains a high level view of our accommodation plans in addition to an exclusive interview with Dr Annette Winkler, Head of smart.
thesmartclub is liaising closely with the event organisers (and for our UK participants, with smart UK) to ensure that we all bring you the best information there is regarding routes, a package of options, participation in smart times 2012 and additional attractions plus we'll bring you access to all the online information there is to know about this huge smart spectacle. smart international will also be launching information via a facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/smart.international and we'll be supporting this, of course, via our dedicated web site www.smarttimes2012.com

Well...
for those that haven't yet worked out when this even is actually taking place, it is
from August 23rd to 26th inclusive.
Personally I'll be making my own arrangements for this event (and save money in the process).
As and when I've sorted out a few details I'll give you the lowdown on costs/times/hotel etc etc
and see if we can then organise a 'tube' of ForFours down to the Channel port, onto a ferry, and
then another 'tube' to Antwerp.

I'm really looking forward to smart times 2012 - i've been 4 times so far and it's always been an amazing event, got a great buzz about it. We'll be there with the BRABUS forfour and the Crossblade (as it's the 10th birthday of the 'blade).
If you are thinking of going, i'd suggest booking a hotel sooner rather than later - it would appear they're filling up already!

How much per night, and how much for parking. I find this is the most difficult place to plan, where to park safely, close-by and inexpensive ;D

We are staying at the Hilton as I get money off with my Hilton credit card. It's about €119.00 per night and €17.50 per day for parking.
This is for four nights (I got two nights for €90.00 as I paid with points and money combined and the other two for €238.00).
Some people are staying in the holiday inn but when I looked it was full.
I think the hotels are going quickly- we've chosen to arrive there the day before to enjoy some of Antwerp before Smart Times.
We haven't decided to go to Amsterdam before or after the event just yet (it's an hour and a half drive from Antwerp).
It looks like its cheaper to buy a one way ticket on the EuroTunnel and buy the return separately.

We're arriving a day early too, but we've decided to stay a night in Brugge, 4 nights in Anwerp and then a couple more in Amsterdam.
We've found slightly cheaper accommodations, but parking is basically the same.

We've done some research and parking in Amsterdam seems so expensive that we might just fly there instead. I have airmiles so a flight will only cost us £27.00 each return.
Unless anyone knows of cheaper parking in Amsterdam? Slightly off topic I know but we planned to see some of Europe whilst travelling to Smart Times 8)

I'm booked in at the Hoiday Inn Express Antwerp North,
which is just under 10mins walk from the venue.
Overnight car parking is €16.50 !

Yes our parking is charged at €17.50 a night- I wonder if there is any way that we can leave our cars at the venue rather than pay this hefty price per night? I might ask Al Young...?

Well worth a 'shout' to him ladyV.
in the current tight economic time any way to keep the costs down is a good thing.
The removal/reduction of such costs would possibly tip the scales to someone attending or not.

Suggestion time....
How about we set up a meeting place/time ?
I know for a fact that S2smarts will have a stand/display/marquee. In fact they will have 2 'displays',
with one outside the exhibition hall and one inside....
So how about we set up a meet at the outside display at midday on the first day ?

i am without any gadgets(no smartphone :( ), but i will have roaming active, so i can answer via facebook, or sms .
i will arrive earlier and i want to go to see the spot where it will be and how it is :P

Right gang...
I'll be on the 14:00hr DFDS ferry Dover-Dunkirk on Wednesday 22nd,
and returning on the 14:01hr DFDS ferry Dunkirk-Dover on Monday 27th.
I was going to be travelling in convoy with another modified ForFour CDI,
but the driver gets sea-sick easy, so we'll be parting company at Folkstone
where he'll be getting the Chunnel train. But we've agreed to meet up again
at the first service area/station on the Dunkirk-Antwerp road and convoy again.
From what I can make out on all the 'blurb' that's floating around, it looks like
you can park your motor at the event....but as to how secure/safe it is to leave
it overnight...........hmmmmmm :-\
As most Hotels will be some distance (anything from 5-15 mins away, I'm not sure
that leaving it at the venue is the best idea. Not that I/we don't trust the 'locals',
or those from other parts of the world who will be attending......ok.
There's no security camera's or guards... or so I have been able to find out...ok.

Just exactly who will be going from the UK in their ForFour's ?
I've already worked out the attendance of ForFour's will overall be embarressing
in comparison with the huge number of Uk ForTwo's and Roadsters that will be
attending....but...better some than none, right !
Anyway....correct me if I'm wrong....the UK ForFour attendee's that we know of
that will be attending are:-
3 ! Me / Andy (not yet registered) / LadyV + Fox in one car / and Alex....
Regretably musmart and Mazziel cannot make it due to other commitments.
From Romania (Cosmin's group) :- up to 10 !..maybe more !
From the rest of Europe... Substantially more than 3 !

I have a couple of small bad news.
1.If you're reffering to me by Alex ... :) I'm from Romania so with the second group.
2.Lots of last minute cancellations on our side, so only 3 smart cars will be attending and only 2 of them are forfours (other is a roadster..no fortows on our tube, they've all broken down).
I will be arriving in Antwerp on the morning of 23rd, and I too am looking for suggestions on where to park as the hotel we've booked does not have parking facilities.

LadyV and I will be coming in one car, we are getting the tunnel at about 7am from Folkstone to Calais on Wednesday the 22nd and taking our time visiting places we see along the way.
We are parking at the hotel (Hilton) at a cost of appx €16 per day but will be searching for somewhere cheaper if possible.
We will be leaving in the afternoon on Sunday and have a chunnel booked around midnight to return home.

Last minut feedback, 4 cars, 2 - 44, 1 - roadster, and 1 - 42.
We will have white polo tshirts, on the back" smartfan.ro Romania",and a big stiker on the car with romanian map draw and romania flag.
8 couples, and some others that win a contest and they will come with the airplane and they will have the same tshirts.
Total 4 cars and 12 persons.
