Following on from the question about mpg figures.......
.....I have a few more questions!!
1) are people actually worried about the mpg of their car while driving it?
2) do you have any techniques (driving or other) for saving fuel?
3) did you consider fuel economy when you bought car or was it just on looks?

Good questions.....
My answers!!
1) No - I drive it till it needs filling up! It's the cost of motoring!
2) Hmm - I like to put as little strain on the engine as possible and try to keep in a lower gear to enable only small movements of throttle.... E.g. 30mph is 3rd gear and responsive NOT 5th gear and foot to floor!
3) nope!! Wasn't bothered at all and it was only on my first long drive I realised how poor it was ;) I never even went to look at the car nor did I even test drive it OR test drive a Forfour ! It got delivered to Bristol by York Merc and my first drive of a forfour was taking the delivery driver to the station !!

1) I nearly always bung in a £20 note around just under the halfway mark.
I've done it for years, but I guess soon I'll be having to add a tenner to it.
2) I always try to drive at maximum speed limit wherever I am.
When I come to a lower speed limit I take my foot off the gas.
As I have a softouch it'll drop from sixth to fifth to fourth with
engine braking, and most of the time I don't have to touch the
brake.
3) I saw my Forfour on the end of the forecourt while I was looking at Clio's.
Decided what a fantastic looking little car and thought that size engine can't
be thirsty and it wasn't.

I fill up at night or in cold weather, you get more fuel for your money if it's colder. I always run the tank down until the 4.5L warning flashes or drive it until 2.5L flashes.
Use decent fuel, not supermarket stuff. Total is good value.
Don't labour the engine, it's ok to drive slow in a high gear, but not up hill in 5th at 30mph!
It's always good to give the car a blast now and again.
My get no less than 45mpg in my cdi however I drive it. 52mpg at best so far.

Give us an update as and when BIG has waved his magic wand over it.....(remap in other words)

1) I try to achieve 50mpg, want to get as best as I can. I do have fun but have a lot of miles to cover on a daily basis.
2) With the softouch a higher mpg is achieved with manual mode, using the gears to brake rather than braking, short shifting around 2500rpm (the engine prefers around 3500rpm to get a smoother shift), tyre pressures and conditions this can affect mpg by up to 20%!!!! Petrol choice, BP Utlimax 97RON seems to provide the best overall performance and mpg.
3) I was looking for an diesel auto hatchback with low tax due to commuting so was gonna buy a Colt, then there was this funny strange thing called a forfour. Fitted my lanky frame, felt alright to drive and would do the job. I then found this poo covered, partially trashed, bay grey Pulse 1.3 petrol with leather and A/C. Drove it loved it bought it!
Trying not to be biased but the 1.3 softouch provides the best all round performance and economy. The 68CDi provides economy on a budget and the 95CDi provides economy with loads of cash haha
