Hi,
I've just bought my 1st smart forfour brabus on a 05 plate,
And absolutely love everything about the car but I can't get my head around the design of the lights especially the rear lights,
Does anyone one know if there are any aftermarket replacements or at the very least whether it is legall to tint them?
I'm struggling to find any information online.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

G'day Benji.B, and welcome to the forum,

There are no aftermarket replacements for the rear lights....
I looked for many years, but found none.
And don't for one minute consider doing anything other
than what JJ has done as you may get your arm 'felt' by
the men in blue as you'll negate the certification of the
unit....seriously.
You can fit LED type bulbs, but for the indicators, ensure
that they have the necessary built-in resistor in so that
they don't then flash crazily.
A 'CREE' bulb in the reversing light turns it into a far better light.

There are two types of standard lamps though, the mono-colour and the tri-colour...which one do you have and why does it bother you?

Thanks for the welcome's and the advice.
I've just been on the fly eyed Web site and bought myself some tints as suggested by JJ.
It's not that I dont like the lights but the smart I just bought is black with black window tints and having three white, orange and red "tri-colour I'm guessing? " lights on the back spoils the clean look of the car, for me anyway.
Could anyone suggest where I can find some brighter bulbs as there are so many different types out there, I'd rather something I can just replace the bulb and not have to mess around with the wiring.
Also just want to say what a great site this is,
Especially for someone like me "totally new to the whole smart car thing"
Cheers

This is the monocolour lamp

On my 2004 1.3 S-A, the indicator light section looks positively white at a angle compared to a Brabus rear lights where (in my experience) they are always yellow no matter where you look (and yes, the light emitted is still yellow). If you look at my lights straight on, they sort of look like the mono lights Alex posted but the reverse light looks wrong unless it was done specifically for the UK market though I can't see Germany's requirements being any different. Is this a tri or mono colour rear cluster? I am guessing a tri-colour cluster but it doesn't match the other 454's I have ever seen.

Your rear lights match those on my CDi Passion....tri-colour.
My Brab has the same as well !
Like the headlights, the rears were made by 2 different manufacturers,
so I'm guessing they fitted whatever was in stock/was on the production
line at the time the car was made.

Ocracoke,yours look mono.
Look at this side by side TRI vs Mono

There's still yellow and white in them, it's just the yellow is redder and the white has a red /blue tint.
I think there was some rhyme and reason why some cars got different lamps, but i can't remember if it's because of the car's colour scheme or it's trim level.

Looks like a trim level and age thing. In one version of the 2005 UK brochure, the Pulse has the tricolour lamps and the Passion has the monocolour lamps and specifically mentions this. However, in another version (which may be slightly later on in that year, I am not sure), the Passion makes no mention of it and all of the images appear to be tricolour lamps.

If I remember correctly ( it was 12 years ago ) there was an option on the lights ( mono / tri colour styles ) when I ordered the car , at the end of the production run a lot of options ( and standard fitments ) were no longer offered and quite a few differences occurred on the standard specs offered .
