i like that, but one thing is still bugging me. why is it called the smart fortwo+2? surly its the smart forfour. its not that hard to add the 2 numbers together, unless the rear seats are 'unusable' by 'normal' adults

I doubt they (Maniacs) will accept even that...as like the current 451 (ForTwo) it won't have a Smart/Mercedes engine.....
ergo it is still not a proper Smart (in their eyes).

Well apparently the new 'ForFour' will be based on the old A-Class, or so I was told at the Brabus factory

Well there's a bit of 'new' news, eh !  And merc axed 'our' ForFour because it was too much of a threat/competition to the A-Class !
Changed their tune all of a sudden, haven't they ?
(maybe they'll re-release the ForMore... based on the B-Class....we can but hope........)

i was told this back in 2008 when there was the london to berlin intermeet and when i had my old city coupe.
the last day i drove to the brabus factory to meet the british smart owners that were comming back to blighty (i went to my aunts in dillingen an der donau, didnt stay with the group after some where in belgium) and the guy who took us on (the fairly boaring part of) the tour of the factory mentioned that there are some test mules of the forfour based on the old A-Class (im asuming its the LWB one not the older SWB) running arroung i think it was berlin at the time.

They are doing that so when we want to trade in our 'old' ForFours for 'new' ForFours, our one's will be worth diddly squat,
and we'll have to shell out more of our hard earned green for it !

BWAH HA HA AH HA HA HAH AA HA AHA HAHAHA!!!!!

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo true!

If someone wants to make a comment about 'painted on trid' looking at that picture, it does really look so. The front panels go over it! Lucky that it's an illustration.

The current 451 petrol is a Mitsubishi Kei class engine modified for the fortwo... it comes from the 'i'. They seem to gloss over that fact when dissing the forfour's engine. They seem to neglect the fact the 454 engine was developed by Mitsubishi and built by Daimler at the plant where the Daimler groups engines are built (or were) . As for the 451 engine, it is wholly Mitsubishi with no involvement from Daimler except specifying the engine.

As for the fortwo +2 it is trying to keep the car minute, hence the name, who wants a compact city car called the forfour it sounds big. The rear seats will be like 'dickie' seats, occasional and not for permanent use - i believe.

All we do know is the next gen fortwo and forfour/fortwo +2 is it will be the same as the next Twingo and the larger of the two is to have steel NOT plastic panels to save on costs.

To save Merc/Smart money....(but it won't cost the buying public any less...of that you can be sure)
And....as the metal panels won't spring back into shape like they do at the moment after a minor knock Merc/Smart will make money
on the repairs too.   A win win situation for them...and a loose loose for the owners.

The whole "is it or isn't it a Smart" is quite boring and it seems to be the fanboys who bring it up.
I was one of the few people who, in a secret forum, started the "ForFour isn't a real Smart" for a wind up.
It was simply so we could all have some banter and bring a bit of fun back to Funkysmart as it was back then.
I was expecting the ForFour owners to joke about the poor reliability of the ForTwo engine and the fact that the Roadster leaks.
1 big jest circle. However this backfired when the ForFour owners couldn't take a joke, who'd have thought it.

The problem is that the ForFour was just another 4 door car to most of the original buyers so they didn't have the same mentality
as the existing Smart owners (who are mainly freaks).

I am the first to admit that i'm not a fan of the ForFour. I like the fishy front but the back is too similar to other cars.

The original "reason" that the ForFour wasn't a real Smart was through Smart's own literature, which stated that the average occupancy
of a vehicle was 1.4 people, so the Smart car generously gave you 2 seats, therefore, if it's got more than 2 seats, it's not a Smart.
Don't get a*sy, it's a joke.

It wouldn't stop me buying one if it was cheap enough. If you like your car then who cares what other's think.
That's what happens on the internet, Apple vs Android, Ford vs Vauxhall, Playstation vs Xbox etc.
