200 tkm service coming up, do I have complete list what to do?
« on: September 28, 2016, 04:08:12 AM »

Hello,

My car is less than 1000 km away from 200 tkm mark and need to order some parts for her and do scheduled maintenance. My forfour is 2006 1.3l petrol and if I missed anything from list please add your advice ;)

- Valve clearance check
- New aux. belt
- New water pump
- Oil change, new air and oil filter

Was there anything else that was scheduled to do at 200 tkm?

why are you fitting a new water pump? is it leaking? is it noisy?
if theres nothing wrong with it then leave it alone till it does fail.

when were the plugs last replaced?

Cooling liquid has been changed 50tkm ago, brake fluid was changed 25tkm ago, spark plugs were changed 20 tkm ago (Bosch Iridium).

I am going to change water pump because they usually last ~200tkm-250tkm before failing and I would like to enjoy hassle free ride :)

dont believe that for s second that water pumps last only 200,000 KM... my uncles civic has done 200,000 MILES (322,000 km) and its on its original water pump, explain your 200,000 km theory please.

why change something thats not failed...?

Well, I'm a great proponent of preventative maintainance... up to a point. Especially safety related items. I ALWAYS change tyres and brakes before they reach end of life. However, to my knowledge no one on this site has logged an incident of a failed water pump. I've never heard of a catastrophic failure of one. They usually start leaking or sqeeeking. So, I would leave well alone. Should it start to fail you'll most likely have some notice, so I'd save up the cash for as and when. Just my opinion.  ;)

I am more worried about the oil pump on my car, but if anyone wants to change the water pump for peace of mind i don't see why not.

It's not too early at 200K, it's not a huge endeavor, so i say go for it and show us what the pump looked like.

but why waste money on something thats not needed or failed... its like replacing a clutch at 40,000 miles when it doesnt slip, you could have another 100-150,000 miles left before it fails, depending on driver and driving style.

leave the water pump till it fails and spend that money on something worth while.

im all for preventative maintenance, but why spend when its not needed?

you wouldnt take your car in to a garage and they turn round and say you need a water pump, even though you know its still good and havnt noticed any coolant leaks. you'd be straight on here naming and shaming the garage.

Around here in Finland water pumps on most cars last around 200 - 250 tkm before complete failure. Probably has something to do with -30 - +90 degree Celsius temperature difference change during winter.

Hmm, why on earth would you be worrried about the oil pump?! Has there been an incident of one failing that I might have missed?
