Title: 17" Rims, What tyres for FourFor?
Post by: W00kie on November 05, 2013, 04:12:59 AM
Hey guys,

I probably dont contribute to this forum as much as I should but I need some help if possible. I've got my self 4 17inch rims and I'm not sure what tyres I should be getting in terms of size.I currently have 205/45R17 sitting in the backyard which my local mechanic told me are too big and will confuse the ECU and if I'm driving at say 80kmph it will show 50kmph or something like that. If someone could tell me what I sizes I should be getting I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

The difference in the speedo reading will be much smaller, it's only 3.44%, so at 100kph indicated by the speedo you will actually have 103.44km/h.

But the speedo over-reads as standard, so most likely it will now show the correct speed.

But if you have lowered springs (or even standard ones that have gone a bit soggy over the years) the 205/45R17 tires will rub at full lock, but this also depends on wheel offset.

What offset do yours have?

The 'correct' size tyres that you should be looking at fitting
are 205/40R17 (W84).  I would suggest the following choices....
Hankook Ventus V12 EVO
Falken Ziex ZE-914   (or 452's if you can find/get any)
Khumo Ecsta LeSport KU39
Uniroyal Rainsport 2

Cheapest around for these is www.blackcircles.com (incl fitting etc)
