Title: 2 spanners flashing 30 times
Post by: PaulMarshall on September 16, 2013, 05:52:23 AM
Hello everyone,
I have just picked up my forfour 1.3 2005 and I am very happy with it. I payed $3500 NZ with 96000 on the clock. I noticed it needs a service B because of the 2 spanners flashing when I start. What exactly do I need to do?
I had another pleasent surprise when I first drove it, It has 4 power windows and power mirrors. I was exspecting it to have the bear minimum.
I love this car.

oil, oil filter, pollen filter, air filter, spark plugs.

there is NO fuel filter, but might be with having a look as it might be fitted to different markets

Also please inspect (and change if needed) the Aux belt, it drives the Water Pump, A/C and Alternator.

Being a new car to you (and if there are no hard evidence of the following being done recently) you might also want to change the coolant and the brake fluid.

I would also get underneath and check the driveshaft seals, these have leaked on some forfours, and they will kill your gearbox if they leak too much oil.

Otherwise these are fairly bulletproof, and with just regular servicing will go a long way,  my 1.3 2004 is now at almost 193.000kms. ;D

Welcome! Also worth checking the thickness of the brake pads and discs.

dont make the mistake of using 0w30 fully synthetic oil, it too thin for our engines. if you read the hand book it states you should use 10w40 fully synthetic

Not sure. It was repossessed from the PO. Runs smooth and quiet though.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I want to do everything then I know I'm sorted. Do I need software to make the flashing warning sign go away?
I can do the physical stuff.
Does anyone know if TOAD software works on our computers?

Ok - service it and then follow the guide on here to reset the service indicator :)

mr singh, I use 0w40 in my 1.3, it's at >193.000km and does not use up any noticeable ammount of oil between services, runs smooth, pulls very well and still uses less fuel than comparable hatchbacks. I would NEVER put 10W40 in my car, never ever. Also I highly doubt that you can find 10W40 with MB229.5 approval.

The manual also shows a list of several oil grades being valid for all forfour models -

Doesn't help the OP much, but the spec oil for the Brabus is Shell Helix Ultra 5w30, which is what S2 use (or did in my last 2 services).
