Title: MOT Tomorrow!
Post by: Ferrina on September 30, 2010, 07:46:56 PM
Just found out the car wasn't MOT's for a whole year when I bought it, but ran out in May this year!!! Got it booked in tomorrow though and fingers crossed should be ok. It's such a great car!

:o that's shocking!

Alice sailed through her third MOT the other weekend with no prep work. Although brakes being done at the weekend as they are five years old.

Mine's just passed it's 6th year ;D  Failed on a blown sidelight bulb, quickly changed by the tester and retested immediately.

Did you know you can look at the MoT history on line http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_10020539

That's really a useful bit of info there for UK owners Blackdog, thanks for that.

It passed with flying colours! So I treated it to a Forte diesel engine fuel treatment to finish off the service.

yeah did it myself once! realised months afterwards that it had run out. As it's all computerised now you'd think they'd put a reminder system in place like the car tax. Anyway how many of us have actually had to pay for a big repair bill. Most of us have had tyres, discs, pads, exhausts, bulbs etc, but the basics of the car are really sound.

Lot's of garages have stopped doing reminders for MoT's as they found most customers were still leaving it till the last minute
and trying to book in their cars late rather than earlier (which was what the reminder was for). And because it is last minute they
can't /couldn't book their cars in, so they would 'punt' around trying to getting them in elsewhere. So most garages have felt it's
not worth the paper and envelopes and postage. Leastways, that's what I was told by 3 of my local garages....

I was thinking more in terms of reminders from the DVLA G!!!  They're so wonderfully efficient at sending out tax reminders followed up by quick fines if for some reason you don't renew. The system is in place for MOT reminders, but there is nothing in it for the government. It's so easy for us to forget our MOT with bad consequences. Have a look at this link for more information.

Totally agree, I drove my old fortwo for 6 months with no MOT because I didn't realise, unfortunately that is no excuse.

Best idea yet, by far....

In some ways am surprised the Gov doesn't add an option to post us a reminder for an extra Quid on our Licence.
I'd pay happily rather than get a fine.

The bottom left hand corner of the MoT Certificate is a peel off label for sticking in the corner of your windscreen so that you can see when your next test is due  ::)  Why not stick in place  :P

Have put the sticker on the 'back' of the sunvisor on both Smarts......
Both on the window and on the visor have shortcomings....
1/ On the window it fades in the sunlight...any sunlight
2/ On the visor, it looses it's stick and how often do you put the visor down for it to remind you.

But...if the car has been taxed regularly since it was bought then the Government posted renewal
notification you get for that (if renewed yearly) is a good prompt/reminder that an MoT is needed.

You can always try and 'manouvre' them (MoT and Road Tax) to get them in sync if the dates aren't the same.
It was just a thought......

Stick on the inside of the fuel flap - every time you fill up it's there for you to read.

Well I hope you don't just rely on that jj. An office budget cutting measure can soon put paid to that. Just a cynical thought though!!...with the increasing application of ANPR cameras I wonder if the Police are doing quite nicely lately hitting their "targets" with the forgetful ones.

My local garage sends me a reminder out at the end of August (MOT is September) with a 10% off voucher. But I know my car was registered in September and carries a 55 on the plate, so not too hard (for me) to remember which month I have test my car.

I've actually taken the sticker off the MOT certificate and stuck it on the inside of my screen, under the sun strip!!! I won't forget next time!!! Also in my phone.
