I am considering the new ForFours with an Auto gearbox, but I have heard that there may be a production problem with the gearbox holding availability.
Does anyone have any info/ can confirm delays?
Thanks.

Do you mean "holding up availability"?
I know a few folks who have taken delivery of their DCT 453 Smart (in both Fortwo (C453) and ForFour (W453) guises). I am not aware of any issue with availability at the moment but if memory serves me, the original launch of the DCT gearbox was pushed back a little.
Perhaps talking with the dealer might be the simple option to get an answer on this one.
-
Agreed.....but ask the dealer to talk to Head Office while you
are there....as knowing sales people, they tell you that black is
white if it get's them a sale.
-
Thanks for the replies above.
>>they tell you that black is white if it get's them a sale...
:-)
I was wondering if anyone had heard anything, in the last week or two, perhaps on the grapevine. A dealer or even Head Office may not want to say anything seemingly negative, like production stopped while a problem is resolved... (-And with that in mind, I assume I can receive a PM here.)

Speak to Neil or Steph at Smart Poole, tell the Kate at Smart Sport sent you. They won't feed you BS.

According to my dealership when I bought my new 2015 ForFour, the factory halted all production of the forFour without notifying the dealers for around 3 months because they couldn't get the front armrest for the 2016 model to work properly.
I only found this out when I had an delivery date of 1 November, and the dealer contacted me to say it'll now be sometime late January!
I compromised on the spec so that I could get a car that had already been manufactured, but when I went to collect it from the dealership I met another customer who had ordered the automatic gearbox, and was as annoyed as me about the delays from the factory, and the fact they didn't tell the dealerships about the delays.
-
Interesting, thanks. Bit surprised at the delay being caused by the armrest. (Reminds me of suggested excuses for school days, rather a lot of years ago, trying to get off going out in the cold and wet because my finger hurt! :) )
Well we ordered our Forfour and maybe mid December, or January...
-
I know, but I was forwarded an internal email that said one particular option (the armrest code) was being deleted from the premium pack, and all cars ordered with it will have this option code removed!
-
........all cars ordered with it will have this option code removed !
And a refund given to any customers who ordered it...together with a 'suitable'
né believable genuine explanation given as well, right ? I don't think so.....
-
It's true... the premium plus pack arm rest non-availability is a real thing!
The fortwo one has now been signed off and seen in the wild, the forfour one not so...
-
Nope, according to this internal e-mail, the premium plus pack will remain the same price, without the armrest option!
-
I'd be inclined to DEMAND to know why it costs the same
when they have removed something from the original spec.
-
Well they could be charging you the difference for removal if the armrest. (While this may seem a facetious comment, I know of this happening in a different industry!)
Still could be worse; could be diesel powered. 😟
