Title: Central Locking
Post by: mr singh on August 31, 2010, 06:39:31 PM
before i start if this is in the wrong section please can you move it in to the correct section.
any how back to topic.
my forfour started flashing 9 times when i locked and unlocked it about a month ago and i knew the fob battery was on its way out, so i changed it ASAP and all was well, untill recently. its starting to flash 9 times intermitantly when i lock and unlock, but other times it will flash once.
am i right i thinking that my fob may need re-syncing?

If it allows the car to start on that key then it won't need resynching.  I would suspect a dodgy battery contact in the fob.  Give it a clean and see if it continues.  Was it a reputable battery that you used?

Doesn't it flash 4 times for the fob and more for the car battery? Or is it the other way around?

It says in the manual says its 9 flashes for the fob and then you have approx 100 plips before the battery dies.
Anyway, it seems to have sorted itself after I took the fob apart and tweeked the contacts

You remember how I said I sorted it... well its started flashing 9 times on and off. It seems to be very intermittent and on a couples of occasions when
if locked/unlocked it it's flashed started flashing 9 times, but on the 2nd press to activate the 'coming home' lights its flashed normally and 4 times  ???.
Could it be a faulty key fob  :-\?

I would buy a battery...NOW...as I personally would not like to take the risk of the fob 'dying', leaving me locked out of the car.....
And that's not much fun if it happens late at night.  Better to be safe than sorry.
Oh and some batteries may have been in stock for a long time...so even they could be a bit down on power !
(They don't last/hold their charge forever...even if they don't get used)  Check for any dates on the packaging.

Don't try and save money on batteries, Varta or Renata are the only ones I'd use. Clean the contacts in the key too.

Its started flashing 9 times all the time so its a new battery... again. I dont know if the one I bought was a 'cheap' one or if it was an old one (I threw the packing away)
