Can't decide which alloys to go for
« on: August 21, 2016, 09:50:53 PM »

I've been thinking of changing my  Brabus alloys for a while and originally considered the Mono As. My previous Brabus had them fitted from new and I do prefer them to the standard ones. After attending the S2 Smarts BBQ today I was introduced to the OZ Superleggeras which look really nice especially in graphite. I also met Musmart today and had the pleasure of going in his Brabus OMG that is FAST, he showed his wheels which are Volvo alloys. They also look good but I can't for the love of me remember what they are called lol.

Musmart's car has Volvo 'VIP' wheels....17"x8" no spacers.

Oh, and before anyone goes off to hunt/look for these wheels...
they are rarer/harder to find than Monoblock A wheels.

Go for the set of wheels I showed you on a certain website....  ;)

Which ET s this?
I would like to change my Cruiseline 15" for something wider to fill that gap
Should I search for a different ET or just go with wider rim? (what I would like to "fill" is the offset / difference between the wheel edge and arch  when looked from behind - so wider track)

I wouldnt go with 17" though; 15" or 16" max..

So..
- Deeper rims with different ET than Cruiseline ET46?
- Spacers? (that would hit the bearings hard I guess?)
- Wider rims?

I'm running 16" alloys on my Brab with ET40.

On 215/45R16 tyres, the front's are more or less flush with the
edge of the arch, but the rears could perhaps do with a 10 or 15mm
spacer to bring them out to the edge of the arch.

my Summer setup is 15" Cruiseline and I like it..
I might go for 16" Colt wheels and keep the Cruiselines for winter setup instead of 14" steels..

Why not go with some Moveline wheels if you wanted 16" just for the sake of having OEM wheels and be able to reuse the wheel nuts that your Cruiselines are held on with?

Don't discount the 14" Steel Wheels though. OK, so you'd need a new set of wheel nuts but the wheels seem to be easier to get hold of in the event you have a bump on ice with a kerb (for example).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 14" steelies won't fit on a Brab
due to the larger disk brakes n calipers.

9582djk, if you're still interested, I can and will dig out from my
lock-up the set of all over graphite grey refurbed Volvo VIP's wheel
(like the one's musmart had on his white Brab) and then
'talk turkey' and haggle on a price.
just let me know, ok.

All you'll then need is a set of conical taperred 'tuner' nuts to fit
them on with....after having your tyres swapped over of course.

I intended to keep them because they have 1 season old Pirelli Snowcontrol on them. Would be a waste to sell them so they are staying in the garage. Moveline -- never really liked the 4 spoke idea; somehow reminded me of this:

Would love to find these (ET44) or perhaps some others in ET40

There are quite a few of those 16" Colt wheels going on ebay (uk).
Most are silver, but a tiny few are in a graphite colour.  However....
even without tyres they are not cheap at £69 minimum each !
Too much for second hand/used alloys in my books, especially
as new alloys can be got for just a little bit more.

Why not a set of  Fox FX1's...they do them in 15", 16", and 17".

Or.....

If you can find them you might like Wolfrace Como 4. These are the wheels I have and I chose then because they were the nearest in looks to the optional four spoke Moveline wheels that Smart had on the options list at the time. And to my eyes they look much better than the standard 4 spoke wheels. There is a 5 spoke version (Como 5) available too if you like the look.
