what has the seller said about it 'not being great', and why have SCS told you to avoid it ?

Mr S why do you 'assume' its been sat on the motorway? The clutch is a known weak point and ITS a brabus - a fast car that people don't buy to drive like a nan, especially for 130k long miles. And I meant the gear change unit thing on top of the gearbox every brab owner knows about

well a taxi driver ain't going to us a brabus as a taxi now are they plus you'd know if it was a taxi, the steering wheel would shine like a bald mans head (apologies to balding men) and the pedals would show more wear than there is shown in the pictures.
motorway miles are easily racked up, i know of one customer when i worked at Jaguar Leeds that had clocked up just short of 200,000 miles in 4 years and why wouldn't you buy a 'fast' car and then drive like a granny? iv seen many old drivers with civic type r and they done 'drive' them. most of the powerful jags that are sold are driven gently

Jaguars and Forfours, apples and oranges. Unlike torque converters the clutch is not a lifetime part
Prudent to check whether its been changed as it would be silly to think the original would have lasted this long. I changed the one on my first brab at 80k miles and know plenty of people who've changed it sooner

again referring to my uncles previous cars, he had a 'G' reg Nissan Sunny which had done about or over 300,000 miles when he got rid which had never had a clutch.
its the soft squidgy bit behind the steering wheel that kills the clutch. i know of a customer who had SIX clutches within the first year of ownership and on the other hand had one owner that had clocked 106,000 miles when the gearbox came off as the release bearing had become noisy. the clutch was still good for several thousand miles but we advised and the customer agreed as the gearbox was off, to replace the clutch and fly wheel at the same time.
my 200k jaguar example, which coincidently was an auto was a case of how easy motorway miles can be clocked not a test of the transmission and drive line.

how do you think a car which is 8 years old can clock 133,000 without being say on the motorway? you can still drive it hard and not kill the clutch when on the motorway. i am in no way denying that the clutch might want renewing but with that mileage i can be fairly confident that it will have lots of life left in it.

I think it would be a struggle to do that mileage on anything by motorway. BigDunc was doing big motorway miles and wasn't racking up the miles even close to that.

The clutch may have been replaced already - just look at the bills.

Why have SCS got a say in the car? Competitor seller?? Aren't they a bit dubious anyway (or was that another company) ??

Well, the clutch is by its nature a wear item just as the brakes are. But it is not an exact science and the driver and type of driving can a huge effect on the life of both. A driver who rests their foot constantly on the left pedal can easily kill the clutch whereas a driver who matches the revs for each gear change can minimise wear. 100 miles on the motorway with no gear changes v 100 miles in town/city with dozens of gear changes... Simples!

Take each car on it's own merits, but high miles in a small car and the fact that you have been told to steer clear by 2 parties in the know does ring alarm bells.

9582djk- you were told to avoid the high mileage brabus by SCS, any reasons why?

They looked at the car and told me not to buy it not just because of being high mileage but it has been smoked in and not looked after well at all

Indeed. Personally I think that you might go and look at the car, check it over and drive it yourself... and then make your own mind up! I always find that taking someone along with me for moral backup helps. If they are mechanically minded then so much the better. They can then give an unbiased opinion.

FINALLY I HAVE BOUGHT ONE!

Lets hope it will be better than the last though I know it will be lol.
Picked up an 05 Black, 53000 miles, cambelt chnged, f.s.h and with Mono As :) I am well chuffed, Ive got some bits to do but nothing major. It needs a aloy refurb not a big one thankfully, decent polish and possible new centre brake light. I was going to ask actually, the light works except a part in the middle not sure if its a bulb or replace he whole light itself.

Anyway very pleased I waited and got what i wanted and at a huge saving over the original car I had. :)
