The Smart Club posted this on their facebook feed today... a little bit of bashing on the 1.1 and 1.3 variants and the AMT gearbox but otherwise a fairly positive retrospective.

Well, for a 12+ year old design I think that's a pretty good recommendation for our cars. Some others haven't aged anywhere near as well. As I've said elsewhere I've had my 1.1 Passion for 11 years and my Brab for 8 and I think that they are fantastic cars. ;)

It's a pretty fair summary. I am still stopped in car parks on average once every couple of weeks and asked about the Brab, everyone who has driven the buzzbomb has raved about it and I have a few requests for first option if I am selling. As if ! 🙂

I'm a bit perplexed that they didn't state that the 'automatic' is
in fact a semi-automatic, and that it is an 'Automated' manual
and not a fluid type automatic that most people assume it will be...
and, that 99% of the AMT issues are down to the lack of proper
servicing/maintenance by either an MB garage or, an Authorised
Smart independant with the Star machine that is necessary
to set up the actuator/clutch.
Otherwise, the article; apart from the ommission of the 3 standard
trim levels and add-on options not being stated; is not that bad.

shame they missed the typos in the article
