« on: February 28, 2011, 10:34:31 PM »

Pretty simple one.....

Where to buy a ScanGauge II from? eBay or direct from them ?

Then the next question....

Where to mount it for a factory look ?

We presume you mean a ScanGauge II....
If you can get it (with the lead and instructions) cheap on eBay then get it....obviously.

As to where you fit it depends on what audio headunit you have.

If you have a Radio5....
then the ScanGauge II will fit perfectly in the cubby hole underneath it.
You can either have the lead out the driverside end and then across and down and into the
gap round the steering wheel side panel (as I have/had).

Or.....
if you're not fussy...have the lead out of the back of he ScanGauge II...and make a small hole
in the rear of the cubby hole and feed the lead thru there and route it round to the OBD2 port
that is to the left and under the steering wheel panel.

If you have a Radio6 or any other double DIN headunit....
Not much choice as there's no cubby hole space under it........
Which just leaves 2 choices.
firstly the space on the dash to the right of the steering wheel......
I'd advise sticking one piece of velcro to the the back of the ScanGauge II and the other matching
piece of velcro stick to the dashboard.
(loosely placed in this picture..the cable should be under it and the gauge up and back to the panel)

Or......
secondly, use a similar method of fitting and place it to the right side of the shelf on the passenger side...
in other words right next to the head unit, but to avoid having the lead trailing across the lower dash
you would have to make a hole in the corner of the shelf to run the lead thru !  (No picture for this)

£120 posted seems to be the going rate.
Thanks to Carbon Addict for the web addy and your contact shall try him later this week once I finish nights !

CrazyG think I'll try mounting it to the right of the steering wheel as per your second pic,

If you have an Android phone there is always Torque, then all you need is a Bluetooth OBDII adapter. So a nice n tidy wireless set-up. Just a thought.

Hopefully the adaptor works, heard there is a 50/50 chance of a Chinese Bluetooth adaptors working.

I am thinking of doing this myself as its cheaper than the ScanGauge.

Here's a couple of mounting ideas, albeit for a different car.

Having a look around, I think the Bluetooth option is out as iPhone won't connect :(

Sorry no Aandroid phone ! (Blackberry 9700 Bold) So I don't get the cheap option ! Mount wise I'm thinking of making a panel that fits to the right of the steering wheel to blank that area off then slide scangauge II into this (like after market stereo with cage) wires would then be hidden and would look sort of factory fit maybe ?

Side tracking a bit.....I had a Blackberry 9700 Storm..enjoyed the newness at first...
then they updated the software last year..
then hated it cos text was reduced to a type area of 2 skimpy lines. Sh#te thing.
Flogged it for £60 in the end..complete with everything !
Am now loving every minute of my HTC Desire (Non HD)...and it's Android....

Hmmmm..... so maybe I'll get that 'Torque' app and a Blutooth wotsit and
flog my ScanGauge II....(but not right away).
I'll have to check out the 'Torque' app and see if it covers all the stuff the
ScanGauge does first.......
And I'll then need a Brodit mount...and a Brodit clip....which is not cheap !
Hmmm......... maybe I'll just keep the ScanGauge II.

So if I trawl eBay for an Android phone, a Brodit mount and clip, then the Bluetooth OBD2 device.... My Mrs will kill me for spending more money !  ;D

Might just wait a couple of months for my op bonus then get the Scangauge II.

I'm looking at the possibilities of an iPAQ with Bluetooth to see if that's possible !
They are only about £30 and have a lovely big screen ;)
