Hello,

I'm looking to get a fault reader for my forfour 454 as I'm trying to read the fault codes for the steering.

Any reccomendations?

The Smart has standard OBD2 Conmection and Codes.

Of course the best Diagnosis and Control Software is the original MB StarDiagnosis, but it will of course cost more then the car is worth.

So any OBD2-Dongle (like icarsoft i610 WiFi or any ELM327 BT) and a SmartPhone App like Torque is enough to get Error Codes. Otherwise iCarsoft has also MB specific readers like MB V2 etc.

dont bother unless you want to spend money on a decent one. generic code readers will ONLY read the codes in the ECU. to get a decent one that will read all the modules, your possible looking to spend £350+

Always worth seeing if a local independent garage with the right equipment will do a code read for you as a one off.

This is what I did when I had ABS warnings, he charged me 10 or maybe 20 from for a one off code read,  I recall, it was a few years back.

Easiest money he made that day and a lot cheaper for me than going to MB or buying a reader that could handle the ABS module

As i have written iCarsoft MB V2 has everything you need and is about 140£ in UK?!

Tested in RealLife as you can see.

An interesting bit of kit Bari87...but for most £140 is more than
the majority of owners would be prepared to to pay for something that
most would only use perhaps once.  Many would rather use £140 to
buy the next pair of tyres or the next service etc....

But yes....it is a good bit of kit.

When reading here then yes i must agree that anything more then refilling washing water  looks like a total desaster for 454 owners in 21th century, at least in UK.

But just for info that you dont need to spend 350£ for just a fault reader, its only a 454 with a few ECUs and not a W223 with >40 ECUs (but even that is included in iCarsoft MB V2). Since i have also iCarsoft CR Plus (multiple car brands) and StarDiagnosis i can compare 1:1 (at RealLife).

For quick use (but limited), you can buy one of these, it costs me arround 10 pounds.
It is an EML327 OBDII Bluetooth plug in...with a power on/off button.
You can use it for a few errors and a few readings, with your phone and the appropriate App.
For complexe and complete diagnosis, you should invest more money.
