Motion alarm
« on: March 11, 2018, 10:56:00 AM »

once in a while I forget to lock my car and some  bugg!! Empties it out looking for money. takes nothing but money and most times get nothing. would like to know if I  can set the motion alarm but leave the car unlocked as it would scare the sh!! out of them and may be they would stop, rest of family think I should just remember to lock it  but unlike them I do sometimes forget, after I have picked them up late Friday night, but that's another story.

The alarm can only be triggered/set by locking the car, so I'm afraid
you'll just have to remember to press the keyfob...which should be
easy as you will have the keys in your hand having just taken them
out of the ignition.
BUT...you could ask the family (who you have driven home) to remind
you to lock the car.....

Or...go extreme and fix one of these to your front door/frontwall:-

You are not alone.....I'm retired and forget things...sometimes.

How about this smallish sticker then....rather than a big sign,
and it's cheap at £0.99 !

Not sure where the setting is  .... but mine locks itself ater a couple of minutes if I don't lock it when I get out  (  as in turn it off take out the key get out  and close the door ) , if I don't lock it with the fob button it locks itself after a couple ( appx ) minutes .

it shouldn't do....its dangerous.

if you unlock the car without opening a door it will auto relock but it won't/shouldn't lock itself after you get out.

your car theft insurance is ceratinly invalid if your car isnt locked, that is if any joyrider would actually steal  an old ForFour.

You'd be surprised at how paranoid I get with mine given how visible it is - I often end up double tapping to make sure the locks are set.

Hm? I thought it is factory setting... my 454 locks itself down after 2 or 3 minutes. If all doors are closed. Sometimes I don't lock car because I am sure it will close itself up, only on driveway but still... Seriously.

Isn't it a standard in ForFours?

Only if you unlock it and don’t open any doors

Imagine you turn off the car and leave the key in the ignition and run into the shop while your kid is in the car and come back to find your kid locked in?

I’ve spent an hour waxing the outside of the car before and it defo doesn’t lock

It’s unsafe for it to do so

JJ is 100% correct....
The car will only 'self-lock' if you have unlocked it  B U T
do not open any of the doors or tailgate within a few minutes.

So there is no big hope for you @jmariog...

You can always hire alarm company to build special alarm for your car. Everything is possible, question is if worth spending ££.
