I haven't in mind frequency but doing that oil change at all. I would say 5k miles for engine and 50k miles for gearbox.
And I am not saying what anybody should do, really.

In time of 2 years, doing gear oil change 3 times is way too frequent but yeah, you had a reason.

What's better really, 2nd hand Colt gearbox or pay for rebuilding current gearbox? Does anybody know prices of rebuilding colt/454 gearbox?
Mine is over 110k miles, but had no issues so far. Check sometimes if it's not getting too hot after motorway cruising, but always can touch it and hold hand, so possible - no any bearings dead yet.

you worry about your forfour WAY too much Deszus

you can easily pick up a 2nd hand gear box and a rebuild is going to cost more than buying and replacing. as for motorway miles on a gear box, there will be minimal wear on the internals as your not changing gears as often as if you were driving in the city.

the amount of room around the gear box is pretty good for cooling.

stop worrying about your forfour, drive it till something goes wrong, then cross that bridge.
it looks like your trying to cross bridges before they have even been made.

your gear box (in this instance) may last 200,000 miles before anything goes wrong... or it may never go wrong.

just drive it without worrying!

Just replace proper 75W90 tranny oil with veg oil and gearbox is packed and ready to fly.

Really? Very odd advice! Why would anyone do that?! ::)

I was hoping no one was going to ask that question   ::)

i hope that a certain individual does not respond to that,
as it will be completely unrelated to the original topic of this
thread..and more than likely long winded, unsubstantiated
and totally unnecessary !
AND..if that does happen, then I will delete it  >:(

I assumed it was a joke ;)

Would butter work too?

I agree with G

Happy for a new thread to start with some evidence, findings and some discussion

Butter will only work in a high ambient temperature environment, such as found on other planets.
