HTEC is more like a reseller of bolt on parts. I was told theyre puttung a TD05 on a otherwise stock engine, but this is a setup prone to fail over time. Car will never see full potential unless it gets forged Pistons and conrods. But we will see the outcome sooner or later.  ;D To much boost will also lift the head and destroy the head gasket in no time, so reconsideration here is also a necessity.

Better trust your money on a well reputated engine builder and follow his advice regarding needed parts etc. Those people do this for a living on a daily basis and not just for giggles since they have to much spare time. :D

Keep also in mind that having a bigger turbo on the 4G15T platform will kill the well know midrange grunt these cars are known for. Both cars in the video are fast (62-125mph under 10s) but only when matching their turbos powerband (4000-7000rpms) and are quite dead below this point. ;)

So...if one takes into account what you have just said, viz too large
a turbo...limited power delivery band...loss of md range torque,
and reliability issues etc, it more or less matches my own train of
thought, which are that anything more than say 230bhp costs a
fortune for every extra hp... and is a waste unless you are
contantly in the 4000-7000 power band.
But, with the number of speed camera's on the increase across
the country, that'll mean you're confined to 2rd or 3rd gear.
In other words, it's all about as useful as a boy scout in a wet paper bag !

Me..I'll be happy with 230-240bhp of reliable power, but......
with more low down to mid range torque for overtaking to
save gear changes and revving the nuts off to go faster.

I agree, and think a smaller more responsive turbo suits the car better.
300+ would be a fun novelty though, and makes more sense in countries with areas of unrestricted speed limits!

Yeah spot on.  ;)

Anything over say 235bhp and 260+ (350+nm) of ft-lbs will ask for trouble in the long run. After that you will be forced with 3 options:

1. Sell the blown mess...
2. Get a new engine from ebay...
3. Bite the bullet and strenghten the whole engine to allow for more power...

So the rational decision would be to stay below the high risk area of 235hp/260ft-lbs and tune for around 215-225hp and 225-240ft-lbs and be happy with it. :)

Here is short accelration clip when we were messing around.

First gear was fine, 2nd dropped to 3000rpms so it had to build boost and was quite laggy.  >:(

That vids showing as private :(

Here's a question. What do you think mine would get before it goes pop??! Assuming I bolted it together properly of course lol.

Just my opinion... Brabus, who seem to know a thing or two about tuning... got it right in the first place!  ;)

Oh yeah ?
So where did you find out; or to be more precise; who told you that
'unconfirmed' little gem of information ?

(Yes I am aware that Brab factory mechanic's have a couple of
really 'wicked' highly modified 300bhp/maybe more ForFours that
they drive; or used to drive; about in the factory grounds..but that
have never been allowed out on the open road....All according to
a reliable source that has been inside 'the depths' of Brabus...at
their personal invite....on more than one occasion)

Look at 4g63 engines. 240bhp in a 3.0 3000gt which was naff. 320 in the turbo and 500 plus in modded ones. If we have a platform that can be pushed to silly limits and someones willing to see what those limits are, why  not try it? Worst case is it can be tuned down to make it drivable but we're only here once. May as well have some fun trying!
Lifes to short to not give it a go.

Fixed.  :D -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpMhJ9fvLac

The engine when done properly will hold well over 300hp with ease.

Brabus had nothing to do with the Mitsubishi Engine in the Smart44. When they started developing goodies production was already over and at this point they had already some nice things (induction system, limited slip differential etc...) which were scrapped or sold by workers to those in the know.  ;)
