Burnt orange vinyl wrap
« on: October 24, 2013, 09:36:08 PM »

Evening all.
Finally got around to wrapping part of the car. Think it looks pretty good.
Got to say, the 3M is damn good stuff. Heat gun and a bit of patience and it works a treat.
Onto the front grille at the weekend (followed by the mirrors, skirts and front splitter weather permitting)

And another -
(sorry for the poor lighting. Really doesn't show how bright the orange is!)

Did you do it in one piece, or have you put a 'join' at the rear lip edge...
with the top folding over the lower piece ?

I'm interested as I have to do the genuine Brab 'flip' spoiler that I have to
replace the existing 'flat' topped Brab one ....but I need to either spray it
silver or wrap it in silver before I fit it.

All one piece.
I put the spoiler on the rolled out vinyl, rolled it around the spoiler, marked up where it lapped over and left another 2" for play. I was a bit sceptical that it would look ok at the join you mention but with heat and my wifes plastic hair removal tool with rubber blade (I kid you not!) it formed nicely into the groove.

Took around 2 hours. The usual 1hr 20 for the first half and 40 minutes for the second once I figured out the technique.

Really worth doing!

Edit - Ohh, and the part where it laps into the light assembly, I left a few mm overlap with the cut and tucked it into the gap with a shell clubcard. Was going to use my credit card but was just that little bit too thick to work with.

Shame you live so far away... up North near N-u-T... else I'd have been
knocking on your door with me spoiler and some silver wrap......hehehe

Lol!

Honestly, I don't think it's my doing really. The stuff seemed to mould itself with the heat.
Be interesting to see how much effort's required on the mirrors (Problemchild admittedly did an epic job on his)

Cheers folks.

Plus point is it's on. Bad point is that it's dark and weeing it down outside so no pics yet.

Got a rare Saturday at work so will try and get some pics on a tea break.

Took the grille off tonight and had a go wrapping that too.
A tad easier than the spoiler and it looks great!
(Will only let me post 1 pic at a time without timing out so sorry for numerous posts)

And the last one -
Note the tiny air bubble on the pic. Managed to get this out with some heat. Only realised it was there whilst taking the shot.
Took about an hour in total to do. Around 50 minutes of wrapping and 10 minutes of cutting / tucking. [Didn't take the black grille off because it's melted on and cba (=couldn't be a*sd  :o) cutting the connectors and epoxying them back on]

Looks brilliant and IMO good that you didn't actually do the black grille as I think it makes a good contrast.  ;)
