Hi all,

as fas as I know the new 44 will be a joint venture between Renault and Smart, based on the Renault Twingo chassis. The only thing I can say by now is KEEP YOUR Forfours  :P :P !!! I don't hope, the new Forfour will look as shown here http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/news/erlkoenig-smart-forfour-2014-erster-prototyp-des-neuen-smart-erwischt-5098033.html in the famous German Auto Motor and Sport news magazin ??? ???.

This wouldn't be my dream - but a nightmare. Just my 2 cents.

as i've said before on this twingo "mule", they will be testing drive train etc but the body is going to be smart through and through!

look at the concepts and branding being used in Evil's vid....... smart aren't going to move too far from this i doubt.

Meh. I still want a Formore and I can't get over the destroyed prototypes. I'm getting sentimental now... :'(

Originally yes they worked together on a multi-chassis and engine but the last thing I heard is that Renault pulled out of it.

sneakinhysteria is was mortified with what they did to the Formores.
I had my name down for one. I kept calling emailing Germany asking could i buy one when i knew they were no longer going to continue.
They said they couldn't sell me one as it wasn't EU approved for the road.
If it was to be made road worthy it would cost around 100k.
I'm still upset they didn't give me a Formore for free.

I think there are a quite a few of us that feel the same way about the ForMore....

I fell in love with it the moment I saw a picture of it...hence why I put up a post
about it way back in 2010..  http://www.forfour.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=135.0

I would have had 1 without a doubt......but for MB it was unwanted competition to
their own C and E class estate's, so in truth it didn't have a hope in hell of making it
into production. Such a shame MB had and still have that mentality.
Now if it had been VW/Audi, then it would have made it...and been sold as a SEAT
or Skoda as well as a VW. A sale is a sale is a sale for the Group in their minds.
THAT is difference between VW/Audi and MB, and where MB lose out so much.

I've gone a bit off topic there (Cos it is so close to my heart I guess)....  sorrryyyy

So...Renault have maybe pulled out, eh ? (Thank God in a sort of way)....the longer
it takes for a new ForFour to appear then the more of a 'Classic' our cars become.

Sorry, more off-topic, can't help it:

MB drove the wrong strategy with Smart from the start and in my opinion still do to this day, hence I wouldn't buy a new Smart the way things look today.

The reason why MINI works very well for BMW is because they don't think about cross-brand cannibalisation but increasing marketshare. A MINI customer would not always buy a BMW. Thats also where separate dealerships made sense and combining them with MB dealerships makes no bloody sense whatsoever. Went to my local MB temple yesterday for minor parts and was leaving with certainty that I would never ever buy a car from them. Appalling service and attitude.

The MINI Countryman and now the Paceman are/will be very successful and Smart could have been there years before.

I lust loved the look of the ForMore. Just reading the article makes me very sad and angry. I've never seen some of the photos. I only knew the hangar shot, and photos of the crushed ones... :(..

Everybody is making a small crossover nowadays, and yes smart could have been pioneers with that car.

But mercedes weren't so much after market share as they were looking to lower their CAFE rating. Plus they got the GLK out of the formore, and that's not a bad looking car either.

Now if Renault indeed pulled out of the forfour project that's great news.  ;D I wonder though what engines will be offered now.

Whatever engine they use, let's hope it's Japanese and not French.

Errrrr...NO...it has to be like ours....with 4 nuts....not like a ForTwo with 3 stupid bolts.
At least with studs you can 'prop' the wheel on them easily when you are fitting them.
With the 3 bolts you have to 'juggle' holding the wheel on the tiny hub centre boss while trying
somehow align any one of the 3 holes.

tell me about it. try juggeling an XC90 20" wheels whilst getting the wheel bolts started!

it was a quote once famously used by 'mr poo' (who its ACTUALLY a Ms) over on maniacs
