Same 10% discount I negotiated for www.forfour.co.uk members.
as long as you mention it to them before asking for a quote.
(Though I've heard they 'assume' and apply it automatically)

They gave me a quote only slightly higher than the cheapest cover on any comparison site - I'll pay the extra for the specialist cover, although I'm only assuming it's good based on you lot saying so, as I haven't seen the policy yet!

Just need to get the money together to pay for it, then get a refund on my existing.

i wouldn't cancel your existing..... they apply a cancellation fee.

anything post 9months in and you pretty much have to pay it all anyway!!

if you can get decent cover just as cheap with a bigger company then look as quidco and see if you can get cashback - i got £70 back on a £340 policy with Aviva (and yes....there are no catches and its free money)

you have to weigh everything up on a like 4 like basis. MSM's expertise is understanding smarts and their mods and the community and the owners and can offer a much better risk based approach than a "computer says no" approach because you have fitted a k&N filter.

The main difference is MSM want £550, and my current insurance is £1500....

well obviously that is great.... i guess your refund would pay for MSM and you get a full year.

Go for it ;)

I will say after reading the "table of benefits"- included with all insurance policies, there was a lot more from MSM in terms of cover- i.e a lower excess, European cover (perfect for this year's Smart Times that we are booked to go to- you just have to call them before you leave to tell them), cheaper legal and windscreen cover too.

The main thing for younger drivers i.e under 25 is to try to get as lower excess as possible, obviously you pay more in insurance to get a lower excess but there is no point in having a fully comprehensive policy if you have over £500.00 excess in the event of a claim. Just an opinion...

It's certainly worth doing your homework and spending a couple of hours comparing prices! Quidco is excellent- money back is always useful!

He was either wrong, or lying to you.
It is only cat A cars that have to be crushed, and normaly there is not much left of them.
To be Cat A, it is probably already broken in half or had the roof cut off or similar.
Cat B is not allowed to be repaired or used on the road again, but can be broken for parts.  If you want to retain it, you have to give a written undertaking to the authorities that it will never again be used on the road. (so you can still use it on the track, if a sports car, or off road if a 4X4), but they really dont like letting you keep it unless you can demonstrate a reasonable reason, i.e. using most of the parts on another car etc as traditionaly it is cat Bs that have been dangerously "cut & shut"
Cat C is a pretty bad accident, but you are allowed to repair it.
Cat D is a minor accident, and only written off because it was not worth much.
Cat F is fire.  I once heard that Cat F's have to be crushed, but I dont think that is correct.  However, unless a car fire is put out with in seconds of it starting (in which case it wont be written off anyway), then there is not normaly anything left other than a burnt out shell.

They dont like you doing it, but legaly, you can.

You do have to convince them that you will not try and fix it.

Can I just say thanks for recommending MSM as i've just had a quote from them £100 less than any price comparison website which is bonza!
Excess is lower too which is a bonus will have to check on a like for like basis with my current insurance but all seems good so far

I thought that kind of status has to be immediately declared to the dvla who will make sure the car can't be re-registered, taxed, insured or motted.

There supposed to, doesnt always happen though ive had 2 cat D's and they havn't been registered including my current forfour.

I would have thought that being a cat a or b they would request the log book and destroy it so you can never sell on or repair and put on the road....
