Every now and then when I start my car, it emits a series of 7-8 quick beeps, perhaps from the speakers but I'm not sure.  It kind of sounds like it's coming from the glove box, so maybe the fuse/relay box?

It doesn't seem to do anything, but yesterday I'd left my stereo on (I don't usually) and it started to boot up, then the beeps happened, and the stereo turned off as if all power had been cut.  It then stayed off, til I hit the power button and it came on and has been fine.

Any ideas?

Ermmmm....has made me want to ask do your indicators flash just one or twice when you lock
or unlock the car...or flash lots...?
If lots then maybe the beep is a backup to tell you that the battery in the ignition key is on it's
way out...and needs changing....dam fast.

If I'm way off track with that idea then I have to admit I'm stumped why you getting the beeps.

Have to admit, that was all that I could think it might be.

If the battery actually goes, doesn't the alarm need recoding??

The "speaker" for things like the indicator "tick tock" and the "you don't have your seatbelt on" or "your handbrake is still on" is under the centre console so that will be where it's coming from.

As to what it is! ...no idea! Your stereo is aftermarket isn't it? Sure it's not that making the noise telling you to take the fascia off.  Dunno....

It's definitely not my stereo making the noise - I've had it in 3 cars over about 2 years...

It's also not coming from the same place as the indicator and hand brake noises - it's towards the left of the car definitely.

And no, my fob battery's not dying the lights blink only once or twice - besides I JUST got the key off Smart

I definitely need to book it in SOON to get the second key coded though (I put my working insides into the new key shell, and the new non-coded insides into the broken-ish old key, which I will code then keep as spare).

The only time I hear beeps is if I have left the handbrake on and I try to pull away, If i don't put my seat-belt on or if the driver door is open and the car is moving. Dunno?

Good point ^ Check all doors are closed and maybe, just maybe, there could be a faulty microswitch (I assume) with the handbrake, door, or seatbelt.

its not interference coming into your sub from your new radio??

Definitely not the sub, its a high pitched beep.

And it happened before I fit my HU.

Doesn't happen often, just every now and then.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Mines doing it the stereo works fine but as soon as ignition is turned on 3 sets Of 4 beeps sound and it goes off if i remove the key i get the beeps again and after a while it comes back on, put the key in but dont turn it and beeps goes off then comes on. Turn key to pos 1 and goes off beeps again, pos 2 nothing still dead.

If i then remove the key then slide it back in it comes on without turning it, if i do it goes off again.......weird!!!

It happens only if I leave my stereo on and turn the car off.  If I then start the car, it starts and the stereo fires up.  Then the beeps happen, and the stereo turns off.

My best guess is it's some kind of protection against overloading the electrics when starting the car.

since fitting my new stereo, i get 2 beeps on turn off but only when my iphone is plugged into it (it reminds me to unplug the iphone)

but never had any beeps with the radio6

sounds very strange...... where is the beep coming from?

I think its coming from the speakers ill disconnect the iso connector for the speakers and see if it still beeps, im not sure why it comes on When the key is inserted it shouldnt affect the electrics until its turned surely??

Ill also plonk a multi meter across the iso connector when i get home and check the power output because last night my dad tested it and the permenant 12+ and ground were reading at about 7-8 volts for some reason

its not the beep to tell you your key is still in the lock??

is your boot/other doors shut properly??
