Title: Possibly selling my 454
Post by: Ocracoke on August 28, 2019, 01:34:08 PM
Been considering this one for a while now and I think I've taken the yellow 454 as far as I would like to so I think now is the time to sell it on to another forfour owner. However, I am struggling to figure out a price for it so I am going to throw it out here to see what you all think.

Mod thread: https://www.forfour.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=5224.0

The car is a 1.3 AMT which has a documented clutch actuator and clutch replacement back in 2016/17. It is a originally a Starlight silver car with a Titanium grey Tridion and the panels were wrapped in yellow vinyl. The steering wheel was changed from the non MF wheel to a MF wheel with gearshift paddles retrofitted onto it along with a COMAND Navigator unit and dash pods (because no Smart should be without them). It was ran on the rolling road at S2Smarts at around that time as well and on steel wheels and a K&N air filter, was making 114.2bhp at the time (both have since been removed).

There are a few things not quite right with the car - the rear high level brake housing has de-laminated and the recent heatwave has caused it to split, the rear wiper doesn't work (although I do have a replacement motor for it) and the vinyl is showing its age in a few places but is still generally in OK condition. There is an occasional ABS warning light which does come on as well.

The big one is the mileage. This car has done about 193,000 miles. Now I know that in the modding thread, I do mention the mileage issue with the speedometer swap but since it is now on the MOT database as being that mileage, I am planning to sell it as that mileage.

The car has the 17" Grandlines on them but I am planning to sell them separately though open to an offer to leave them on the car. If not, I have either the copper coloured steels or the original 15" Strokelines to go back on the car.

What do you think? I know it is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question but I'd rather it went to a good home.

I don’t think you will get an amount worthy of selling

That’s why I didn’t sell the Brabus when I got the Zoe

It’s only worth £ to me

The problem is space. I don't have any off street parking at the house and the street does get congested very quickly here. I have off road parking available but it is 5 miles away. If I put it there, it won't get used as much as it should and that is a big shame.

Reading that I came to the conclusion that you have another vehicle
that you can or do use...as well as your 454, yes ?

Yeah, I have a 2001 LHD CDI Aqua Orange 450 and a 2002 RHD 450 as well which I guess a few may have seen before at Gaydon and Beaulieu.

The CDI is in the garage having a new EGR, turbo and exhaust fitting and that will become my day to day driver. The 2002 needs a bit more work doing to it but that was/is my first Smart and is pretty much a rolling project. What I could do is move the 2002 out of the parking space once it has a MOT and such and put the 454 in there but as I noted, it'd be a shame if it wasn't being used.

As others have said...I reckon you will miss it if it goes...
I did when I sold my first Brab 454...at the time I couldn't
justify keeping it as it wasn't used that much.  Soon wished
I hadn't sold it.

I miss/missed it so much I went and bought another a while
later, but I still see my previous Brab at the odd meet and still
yearn after it as to me it is a better example. It's got less than
40k on it...but the new owner is a 'collector' type and even he
has told me that he sometimes wonders why he keeps it and
considers selling it, but then he will take it for a run...(not that he
gives it a lot of 'wellie' as I've seen what he considers 'driving it fast'
...yeah right !). Anyway..he gets back home, smiling from ear to ear,
realises why he has it, and puts it away.... until the next time !
He also has a Crossblade..and uses that more than the Brab 454.
