ABS light and loss of creeping when in gear

Hi all,

The yellow ABS light along with the yellow '!' triangle comes on intermittently on my Pulse 1.3 semi auto petrol.

I've got a bad ball wearing so I'm thinking that has potentially damaged the ABS sensor or a faulty break switch. But interestingly, when the ABS light comes on the car stop creeping forward/backward when in gear, very odd or somehow connected?

The lack of creep when the ABS/ESP is disabled is expected and interestingly, I have the same issue at the moment, possibly a failed ABS sensor on my rear driver side brake as that has been giving me nothing but grief recently. Cheap enough to replace I think.

Thanks for your reply. Out of interest, is there and ABS sensor on each tyre/brake?

I have a bad ball wearing too.  And an appointment at the hospital next Tuesday to get it looked at.  That's only funny 'coz it's true.

yes there are ABS sensors fitted to the rear of each hub, not the tyre or brake

Thanks for all your help guys... some of the comments made me chuckle  ;D

The car is due a service so will address the ball bearing / abs sensors all at the same time.

I know I can check the service schedule online.. I'm trying to save a few bob and wondered what you think I should next include in the service.....The service history so far:

33,700 - 'full service' I believe this also included a new belt and servicing the clutch actuator
42,000 - oil service (incl oil filter)
50,000 - what next  :)

If you have no record of the following being done, it's best you do everything for peace of mind

Brake fluid (should be done every 2 years)
Coolant (new G12++ coolant is rated "for life" but it's best to stick with G12 or G12+ and change it every 2-3 years to flush out deposits)
Spark plugs every 2 years, can go for 4 if you use iridium ones
AUX belt every 2 years (it also drives the water pump not just alternator and AC so you don't want it to snap!)
The rubber brake lines are also a good idea if they've never been changed.

Always use best quality oil and oil filter (i use Man W67 filter and Mobil 1 New Life 0w40, my 1.3 has 260.000kms and does not use oil between services, opinions are divided on viscosity but I've found this works great for me). Air filters are cheap, and so is the cabin polen filter (even with activated charcoal)

If you do the service yourself then it comes in cheap even when buying premium parts.

As you state 'clucth actuator' yours must be an AMT....
and the clutch adjustment can only be made via a Star machine.
This as a minimum should be done once a year, usually at the
same time as it would be serviced.

You live in N.London, so the nearest 'indie' to you who would
be able to do this is S2smarts. Ring and ask for a quote to do
the clutch adjust.

Yep, it's an AMT (not the biggest fan of that).

Guys, I'm buying front and rear wheel bearings:

eBay has lots of (very cheap) aftermarket brands which I'm staying away from.

What sort of brands would be acceptable? Meyle, FAG, SKF?

Also, this is the first AMT car I've owned, is there a automatic transmission fluid that I need to change?
