Another Cdi, a 1.5 petrol or a Brabus?
« on: May 29, 2011, 07:49:17 PM »

I've had my Forfour Cdi nearly two years, been a great little car..utterly reliable and dependable.  Only times she's been in the garage is for MOTs then fitting lowered springs along with new discs and pads.

72k on the clock now but still going great, just thinking about another Cdi, a good spec 1.5 petrol or taking the plunge and buying a Brabus.  Only thing putting me off the Brabus is most seem to be up for sale around 50k on the clock, which I believe is the time the cam belt and water pump service is due.  A costly affair so I'm told.

In addition I cover 250+ miles per week.

You thoughts please!

cdi and custom map from s2smarts - only because of the mileage you do!!

but......the BRAB is awesome!! and there are still a load of decent BRABS around with low mileage

Thanks JJ, keeping mine a while longer or another Cdi is my thought with my 'sensible head' on!

Handling isn't that sharp and a bit bouncy but I guess it's the heavier diesel unit and softer shocks...unless they're on their way out.  I already have PI lower/stiffer springs fitted.

Cheers

the stiffer springs are probably making it more bouncy....

why not keep it and remap it and get some nice suspension kit??

As JJ says....remap and a decent suspension set-up....
Either on your existing car or on a replacement (manual) CDi....personally I'd favour the latter.

As to which set-up.....????  Hmmmmm.....
KW is THE benchmark....but why not try the BC version (series BR) that is made for the Colt that B8TFK
has fitted on his. Though he did say he had to 'modify' the rears...maybe he can explain that mod ?

The only problem on either of these is the price.....the BC's can be got for around £650....the KW's for £1000 !
Not cheap by any means...but you only get what you pay for......and you do get a lot for your money with these.
Longer life, better ride, adjustable ride height and rebound.....
and a car that will handle unbelievably afterwards.

Thanks JJ and CrazyG, I'll stick with mine while looking out for another Cdi with similar or higher spec.  I'd really miss my large opening sunroof and multi-function wheel, both which I use regularly.

Ideally I'd love a white Cdi with electric sunroof, M/F steering wheel and electric mirrors.  I'm not fussed whether it's Soft-touch or manual, I get on fine with my present Soft-touch.

If anyone's selling one similar, give me a shout..thanks!
