Title: Warranty
Post by: steveyg_uk on August 03, 2013, 10:29:12 PM
I've been offered warranty by the dealer - I have always said no and just taken it by chance.

What has everyone else done?

Mmmmmmmmm.....depends how much they want for it, and what it covers.
Some things will always reach the end of their lifespan, or break/whatever
due to 'fair wear and tear' and thats the loophole most use to get out of paying,
so...dare I say that i would advise you save that money and find yourself a
really good Smart independant and use them to keep your car in tip top
condition.

All insurance and warranty are designed at the end of the day to benefit only the company supplying it.

It is with such cynicism that I don't ever buy extended warranties - however my Primera came with a "free" warranty so whatever....

However, you must be prepared to face the potential costs involved in any failure, especially on an 8-year old car with patchy history.

Warranties are only good if they match your needs....

E.g. On our zafira we took a warranty direct policy as the car was sounding a bit ropey. The warrant ended up covering inlet manifold, 4 x glow plugs, 4 x injectors, and a few other parts. £2500 worth of work for £350 policy. Still complained about the service they provided to the Financial Services.

Warranty on the tablet we bought for our little boy. £15 covered it for fault and accidental damage for 3 years!! Erm - yes please ;)

Just read what is covered and more importantly what isn't.
