Title: Collision damage opinions
Post by: Ocracoke on March 23, 2017, 09:50:20 AM
Hey everyone,

I found out yesterday that the friend who bought his ForFour back in January has had an accident and the car is currently disabled. I've had a brief look over it and I think it could come back from this but I'd appreciate any second opinions on this. Closing speed was ~15mph (airbags have not gone off) apparently. The car was the reversed back into the current position it is in.

As far as I can make out, the jobs that need doing are:

My biggest worry is the front wheel bearing being shot which is no small job to replace and I can't be sure as to wherever the suspension strut itself was damaged. Things like the wing, the arch liner and the indicator we can get a replacement of from a breakers so that'll lessen the pain a bit.

It is going to be recovered down to a garage I personally recommended but in the meantime, any opinions on this?

steering rack damage? Suggest you get loads of bits from breakers- maybe some upgrades at the same time

We are going to be getting a fair few bits from a breakers. ;) Yeah, the steering rack might be knackered, hoping it is just what is there.

G'day Ocracoke,  Sorry to hear about the damage on your friends forfour and hopefully it will be fixed soon, good luck.
Greetings,

ouch - hit a wall??

nothing is beyond fixing and the biggest pain will be body work

if you are replacing everything yourself, should be easy. prob easier to get a whole second hand front corner inc hub, suspension, lower arm etc and replace as a 1er.... then steering rack (might be ok - although looking closer it seems to have a bend in it)

Nah, came out of a side road turning left and got shunted by a Honda Civic. :(

Yeah, probably easier to get the whole suspension unit in one whole piece. The front wing and side skirts will be fairly simple, may see if he'll go for sticker-bombing the Tridion to cover the scratches! :P

Well my friend and I are going to call on it tomorrow. The garage want £1600 to do it all which is simply too much.

My personal aim is to get the deep stuff done by them (so things like the wishbone/suspension strut etc) so it is rolling and then we'll get it back off of them to replace the wing, headlamp, indicator and wheels.

We'll be getting most (if not all of) the parts ourselves but if the steering rack is shot, that may end it. We will have to see.
