Minor problems
« on: April 11, 2016, 07:36:21 PM »

Hey all just like to say I'm enjoying the car immensely, in the short time of ownership I have had issues lol. Firstly the car was suffering with the random fuel gauge which seems to be fine now since going to Smart Car Specialist. Whilst there it was checked over and it turns out that the engine mounts have perished and a noisy wheel baring. Not too bad really could be worse. Yesterday I managed to break the boot basically the micro switch went, got that sorted no problem. I did notice last week when getting the locking wheel nut to remove the wheel for a puncture repair, the boot was wet on the left side. After investigating further the spare wheel was soaked and the section that holds the wheel was full of water. I did remove the carpet dried it out and put it back. Washed the car yesterday and it is wet again only on the left side. I have seen the posts referring to this so will investigate. Other than that the car has been great :)

Mine does that... started off yesterday saying it had 1 bar of fuel. Then when I got in it again later on that day, it said it had 4 bars of fuel without adding any fuel to it. Today it is two bars. I've also witnessed it trying to work out how much reserve fuel it had (start at 4.5 litres, then 3, 2, 2.5, 3.5, 1 litre it settled on).

Glad to hear you are enjoying your 454!  ;D

9582djk...you've not said what Sasha (Smart Car Specialist in Giuldford)
did to cure your fuel gauge problem.....more info would be good.
Nice to hear that you are sorting/fixing the other small issues...well done.

Ocracoke...re your fuel gauge problem...I suggest you follow the
HowTo guide and fix it asap.....sure beats forgetting what fuel you
think it has or forgetting to reset the trip meter and then running out
of 'go-go juice' miles from anywhere.

G'day there,
What i do is, everytime i get fuel i set the counter at zero, and i know i do get between 800km and 900km out of a tank of fuel.
I also keep an eye on my wonky fuel gauge but top it up when i think i need to.
Greetings,
Eddie.

The fuel gauge isn't as bad as before but does go up occasionally. As for the leak it seems to be by the back if the seat on the left where the leather trim meets the boot.

Hmm....2 possibilities here...
1/ the rear wiper washer jet pipe has become disconnected or broken
or even cracked at one of the plastic couplings at the top inside
the tailgate. (Does happen). Easily checked and replaced if
    necessary.
Or...
2/ Door/tailgate rubber seals have gone hard and not sealing properly.
The door and taigate rubbers go hard and ever so slightly inflexible
over time, so the soution is to grab a can of silicone spray (not thick
grease) and liberally coat and rub it into the rubber.
It will eventually penetrate/lubricate the rubber and return resiliency
to it so that the seal will again work properly when the doors/tailgate
    are closed.

But....either in the meantime, or long term....
If the water in the wheel well continues to accumulate over time I would
advise removing one of the plastic 'bungs' in the bottom of the wheel well
to allow any water to drain out/away and for ventilation to aid drying out.

I know it's not the rear wiper after investigating, as it works fine and nothing looks loose. I will be looking into it better on Friday when I've got time to strip the interior down to see why there is water on only left side.

The rear lights (alongside the tailgate) do not cover any
openings into the Tridion main body frame......except the
rubber grommets where the wiring loom to the lights comes
out from/thru...so I doubt you will find any leaks in from there.

Hi, I had rain water getting into my Smart ForFour, soaking the whole of the passenger-side footwells. I found out it was the rear footwell really, but as I parked it on a slope, the water seeped through to the front.

I asked the guy at the Mercedes/Smart garage about it, and he said (after checking with the workshop) that it might cost a bit to fix just finding the problem. However, he told me the mechanic had told him that the first place to look was the rear lights mounting. (Wink wink).

So I went home and removed the rear light lenses/fitting (nearside), and there was a huge buildup of mud/dirt behind it! I cleared it out, refitted...and problem solved!

What I think had been happening was that rain water was supposed to come off the roof, behind the lens, and harmlessly drain away. With this dirt buildup, the water instead was not draining away, but building back up until it reached the screw holes used to attach the rear-light to the body, and seaping into the car through there.

Weird, but it seems to have worked. Several rain downpours later, and no water coming in.

Hope that helps.

as above............

JJ

This is driving me nuts. Any idea what the oem number part that is? My coupling in the inside is broken (small plastic pipe) and now bigger sort of the washing fluid ends up around the nozzle and down the rear hatch and just the small amount goes through the washer nozzle. Guy at MB couldn't help or he didn't have a clue what I'm on about

After lots of 'trawling' on the Internet I found that there are 3 pipes for the rear washer. the first is from the pump/washer reservoir to the rear of the bodyshell, the second is from the rear bodyshell including the nozzle. the third is just the nozzle.  (all come with the grommets and fittings etc.) part numbers are

A4548690208  -  hose line rear pane washer
A4548600947  -  spray nozzel w harness rear pane washer
A4548600347  -  nozzle rear pane washer

when you go back to your MB parts place tell them to look on the parts system under Body and Chassis, then Washer System (group), and then Rear Panel Door Pane Washer.
